Climate change and the Earth Summit are globally recognized
issues. A forum was held on May 6th at the Agricultural Exhibition Hall of National
Taiwan University, featuring a speech by Professor Ming Che Tsai, Vice Dean of the
College of Bioresources and Agriculture at NTU, and Director of the Experimental
Forest Management Office, titled "Corporate Natural Growth from COP28". Sun
Wenlin, a journalist from the United Daily News Sustainable Studio who covered
COP28 in Dubai at the end of la st year, shared insights from "Direct Hits on COP28:

Media figures Ruan Shuxiang, Zheng Zhaoyang, and Dr. Huang Bingxi, along with Yang

hope to seek solutions together on the issue of climate change!
The forum's host, Dr. Lin Rusen from NTU's Department of Life Science
Communication, stated that according to research by the Global Footprint Network,
human resource consumption is already equivalent to 1.75 Earths. In other words,
we need an additional 7 5% of the total supply of natural capital and ecosystems to
meet human needs. Therefore, we must cease harming the natural environment
while promoting its positive development. It is evident that the importance of
viewing nature's ecology by nations, corpo rations, investors, and consumers must
undergo a collective transformation.
During the forum, Vice Dean Tsai Ming
Che discussed corporate natural growth from
the theme of COP28, citing the latest international frameworks and initiatives,
including TNFD: Biodiversity and Financial Relationships, SBTN: Methods for
Establishing Natur e Science Based Goals, and the Nature Positive Initiative: How to
Achieve Natural Growth. He hopes to transition from a baseline set in 2020 to natural
growth by 2030 and natural restoration standards by 2050.
What is natural growth? Dr. Tsai explained it could be divided into three major
dimensions: natural evolution, ecosystems, and species, each with its own respective
measurement indicators. The combination of these aspects leads to outcomes. Dr.
Tsai mentio ned three major tasks for humanity: maintaining biodiversity, sustainable
consumption, and sustainable production.
