The Department consists of nine Laboratories of Animal Breeding, Physiology of Domestic Animal, Genetics and Animal Production, Animal Nutrition, Poultry Nutrition, Hygiene of Animal Product, Farm Management, Chemistry and Technology of Milk, Meat Products and Molecular Biology. Currently, The Department has animal husbandry building, animal product plant, milk processing plant, feed mill, animal farm, computer room and many important apparatuses for teaching and studies.


(1) Undergraduate  Program

The establishment of the Department of Animal Science aims at pushing the development and progress of animal production through teaching, research and extension service. The department offers a number of courses related to animal nutrition, physiology, breeding, feeding and management, meat and dairy products. Students who major in Animal Science must take at least 128 credits to complete a B.S. degree which generally takes four years. The following are the major subjects of each academic year:
1st year: Chemistry (C,3), General Chemistry Lab. (1), General Zoology (B, 3), General Zoology Lab. (B,1), Organic Chemistry (C) (3), Organic Chemistry Lab. (1) Chinese (6), Freshman English (6), Chinese History(4), Constitution of ROC (2), Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animal(B), (2, 2), Anatomy & Physiology of Domestic Animals Lab.(1, 1)
2nd year: Genetics (3), Genetics lab. (1), Feed Crops and Lab. (3) Biochemistry (B) (2, 2), Biochemistry Lab. (2) Poultry Production (3), Poultry Production Lab. (1), Biometry (3).

(2) The Master of Science Program

The Graduate Institute of Animal Science, established in the fall of 1969 offers 1 to 4 years of graduate work leading to a master of Animal Science degree. Research may be pursued in the following fields: (1) population genetics and its application to the improvement of farm animals, (2) reproductive physiology, (3) environmental physiology, (4) animal nutrition, (5) meat science, and (6) technology of dairy products. In addition, students who expect to receive advanced but generalized training in Animal Science may pursue work in Animal Production. Students who meet the requirements of the University may be admitted to graduate study in Animal Science. The minimum requirement for the M.S. degree is 24 credits excluding the thesis.

(3) The Doctor of Philosophy Program

In the fall of 1981, the Ph.D. program of the Graduate Institute of Animal Science, was established. It offers a two to seven year program leading to a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Agriculture. The minimum requirement of credits is 18 excluding the thesis, and a second foreign language.
