National Taiwan University Farm held the "Spring Plowing and Transplanting Seedlings to Worship the Heaven" activity

Spring is the most suitable time for sowing. In order to promote agricultural culture, experience farming customs, and jointly support the development of Taiwan’s agriculture, the National Taiwan University Experimental Farm held the traditional Spring Worshiping activity on the farm in the morning of March 25th. Before the rice planting activity, President Wen-Chang Chen, Dean of the College of Bioresources and Agriculture, Huu-Sheng Lu had let a ceremony to pray for good weather at the farm during the cropping season.

Wen-Chang Chen, President of National Taiwan University, presided over a meeting this morning. He specially took the time to go to the farm to host the activity and mentioned that this is a very meaningful activity for the young generation to experience the hard work of farming. This was also the best practice of "Food Agriculture Education".

President Chen said that agriculture is Taiwan's fundamental industry and an important cornerstone of our life. We should respect and cherish agricultural culture and work hard for Taiwan's agricultural development. He emphasized that agriculture is not only the pillar of the economy, but also an important way for the harmonious coexistence of people and nature.

Huu-Sheng Lu, Dean of the College of Bioresources and Agriculture at National Taiwan University, said that through this event, he hopes to convey the value and significance of agriculture to more people, allow more young generation to join the agricultural industry, and inject new blood into the development of Taiwan's agriculture. He said that agriculture is the treasure of Taiwan, and he hoped that more people would know and care about agriculture and contribute to its development.

The children from the Kindergarten Affiliated to National Taiwan University were also invited to participate the activity. Accompanied by their teachers and parents, they were taught how to plant rice seedlings by the farm staff. The rice fields were filled with children's laughter. This event let them experience the process of growing rice.

Professor Min-Hsiung Pan, Director of the National Taiwan University Experimental Farm, said that it is not easy to reserve farmland for farming in the metropolitan area like Taipei City, but it is even more precious to have a large area of farmland in the campus of National Taiwan University. This activity held on campus aims to promote farming culture, experience farming customs, and jointly support Taiwan's agricultural development.

The Agronomy Branch of National Taiwan University Experimental Farm is located in the main campus of National Taiwan University in Taipei City. The farmland covers an area of 1.7 hectares. It is a good place for Taipei citizens to experience the rare pastoral joy in the city. The field has a long history. During the Japanese occupation period, it had already been used to support teaching and research. The municipal historic site, also known as "Iso House", was the laboratory used by Professor Eikichi Iso, for the breeding of the first japonica rice Taiwan. Iso’s lab is a start site for the development of Taiwan's modern agricultural science and technology. It is also a testimony to the contribution of College of Bioresources and Agriculture in National Taiwan University to Taiwan's agriculture.
