College of Bioresources and Agriculture's USR Project:
NTU Transforms into a Local Farmers' Market

National Taiwan University (NTU) responds to the Ministry of Education's University Social Responsibility (USR) Program Phase 3. Led by the College of Bioresources and Agriculture, NTU is promoting the "Together in Yunlin" project. On November 11th and 12th, dozens of Yunlin farmers were invited to participate in the "NTU USR Yunlin Farmer's Market" held at NTU's Lu Ming Square. The event served as a platform for farmers to showcase and sell their agricultural and livestock products, promoting their goods through NTU.

The College of Bioresources and Agriculture is at the forefront of the USR Program, focusing on two main areas: plant doctors and animal doctors. The program aims to achieve four local deepening objectives, including local learning, local service, local care, and local practice. The goal is to elevate local agricultural standards and generate value for the industry.

College of Bioresources and Agriculture explained that the USR program involves planning and addressing primary issues faced by Yunlin farmers, contributing to meeting local needs. This encompasses local learning initiatives to cultivate new technologies, agricultural management talent, and educators for food and agriculture. Additionally, local service projects provide round-the-clock plant doctor services for diagnosis, pest control, and livestock farm management and disease prevention. Other initiatives promote agricultural circular economy practices, innovative media platforms, and specialty agricultural products. There are also projects strengthening the connection between unique local agricultural products, processing, market sales, and the development of livestock farms through industry-academic collaboration.

Dr. Lin Yu-Pin, the dean of the College of Bioresources and Agriculture, emphasized that the USR Program has been ongoing for many years, standing alongside farmers to provide knowledge and practical experience in local learning, new technology cultivation, agricultural management, and food and agriculture education. The program, in collaboration with local agriculture, fulfills the social responsibility of NTU and serves as a model for students' self-awareness and future achievements.

Dr. Lin highlighted that the "NTU USR Yunlin Farmer's Market" not only showcases the achievements of the College of Bioresources and Agriculture's USR program but also represents the improved quality of agriculture in the Yunlin region. The event provides consumers with safe and high-quality ingredients.

Mr. Tsai Geng-Yu, Deputy Director of the Yunlin County Department of Agriculture, expressed gratitude for NTU's recent resource allocation in the local agricultural community. NTU's substantial support for local farmers demonstrates the university's commitment to its USR mission. NTU has become an integral part of Yunlin County, not only as an academic research institution but also as an indispensable member of the local community. The Yunlin County government sincerely appreciates NTU's involvement and commitment.
